The College of Labor and
Employment Lawyers is proud to announce the election of Richard A. Paul, Esq. of Paul, Plevin, Sullivan & Connaughton, LLP, San Diego, CA.,
as a newly elected Fellow. Election as a Fellow is the highest recognition by ones colleagues of sustained outstanding performance
in the profession, exemplifying integrity, dedication and excellence.
The fifteenth installation of Fellows will be held November 6, 2010 in Chicago, IL, coincident with the
American Bar Association's Labor and Employment Law Section's Continuing Legal Education Conference. With the current installation
, the College is represented by almost eleven hundred members in forty-three states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and Canada.
The College was the vision of a number of the Fellows. The idea was to further establish this profession in all its aspects as one
uniquely important to the world of labor and employment law, individual rights, collective bargaining and dispute resolution.
The College was established in 1995 through an initiative of the Council of The Section of Labor and Employment Law of The American Bar Association.
It operates as a free standing organization recognizing those who, by long and outstanding service, have distinguished themselves as leaders in the field.
Rich Paul appeared as a panelist with Padre owner Jeff Moorad and several others on Wednesday May 26th to discuss and debate
"The Tiger Woods Effect: The Future of Morals Clauses in Employment Contracts."
The event was sponsored by the Enright Inns of Court, and attended by both judges and practitioners.
Angela Mullins created and hosted the program.
Brenda Kasper will be co-leading a roundtable discussion regarding ERISA and employment law matters
in partnership with Mercer LLP on June 10, 2010.
We are very pleased to announce that Brenda
Kasper has been made a partner with the firm. Ms. Kasper joined
Paul, Plevin in March of 2007. Ms. Kasper has exclusively practiced
management-side labor and employment law for over ten years. She
specializes in representing employers in all aspects of employment

Fred Plevin met in Chicago on
Friday March 20th with other members of the national Wage and
Hour Defense Institute, a group dedicated to sharing strategic
information about successfully defending wage and hour claims
and reducing the costs and exposures in these cases. PPSC is a
founding member of the Institute.
Rich Paul presented at the
Management and Labor Employment Roundtable on Saturday March
21st. This is a national group of senior Employment lawyers from
most of the highly industrialized states with whom we interact
on a regular basis on matters of mutual concern. Members are
former Editors-in-Chief or senior editors of their state's Labor
Letter. The presentations included a briefing by a White House
employment counsel, the head of Cisco's employment programs, and
an array of presenters familiar with the current EFCA
discussions in Washington, D.C. The group meets semi-annually to
discuss strategic HR initiatives and ways employers can reduce
liabilities.
Rich Paul and
Kari Searles were lecturers at the 5th Annual
Labor and Employment Advanced Practices Symposium in Las Vegas
on March 18th -20th. Approximately 175 senior HR professionals,
in-house counsel and senior outside HR lawyers participated in
the conference. Rich received the audience's highest
commendation at the end of the three day program.
Matthew Schenck specializes in representing employers in all
aspects of employment litigation, including trade secrets,
covenants not to compete, wage and hour, wrongful termination,
harassment, discrimination, and class action suits. He is also
an accomplished commercial litigator having represented public
and private entities in resolving complex business disputes,
including health care-related cases.

secured a published appellate decision upholding a victory they obtained in the trial court on behalf of the University of
California (Lachtman v. Regents ( 4th DCA, 2007) 158 Cal.App.4th

and reaffirms, as California law, a variety of well-known
federal antecedents, and in a single opinion covers a broad
array of academic procedural and substantive matters.

Counsel section on February 12, acquainting corporate lawyers

was one of the speakers at the California Public Employment
Relations Board conference titled "PERB: A Step by Step Analysis
of the Process," which was held at UC Irvine.
Denise Brucker was
elected to the Board of Directors of Partnerships With
Industry (PWI) in February of 2007. PWI is an
non-profit organization that provides job training,
placement, and ongoing support services for adults
with developmental disabilities to work in San Diego
County.
